WHAT IS A WOMAN-OWNED SMALL BUSINESS?
The Small Business Association (SBA) defines a woman-owned small business (WOSB) as being 51% owned, operated, and/or controlled by a woman or group of women.
WHY SHOULD I SUPPORT WOMEN-OWNED BUSINESSES?
Not only are women-owned businesses critical to job creation and economic growth, but they also are an effective source of wealth creation for women and their families. Ownership of a small business can provide both financial stability and economic mobility, thereby reducing income inequality.
By shopping somewhere woman-owned, you are supporting causes you believe in, fostering economic growth and innovation within your community, and making the statement that says representation and equality matter.
HOW DOES THE DIRECTORY HELP?
The Directory is a community-driven resource that highlights women-owned businesses across the US, making it easier for consumers to discover and support local female entrepreneurs.
Buying products or services from your local woman-owned biz is an investment in the economic success of women within your community.
WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPROVAL?
Businesses will need to be at least 51% woman-owned OR woman-operated in order to be approved for The Directory.
Independent contractors (e.g. those who file 1099s or work for multi-sales distribution channels) will not be approved as these business models are not recognized by the Small Business Administration and do they meet the minimum entry requirements for admission.
HOW MUCH DOES THIS COST TO USE?
Nada. Zip. Zilch. Zero.
The Directory is FREE for consumers to use and there is NO COST for business submissions.
IS THIS ONLY FOR BUSINESSES WITH A PHYSICAL STOREFRONT?
Nope! It’s important to recognize that not all entrepreneurs can immediately start out with a brick and mortar store, nor is every business appropriate for a physical location. Regardless of where your business lives, it is deserving of this recognition.
IS THIS ONLY FOR BUSINESSES THAT SELL TANGIBLE GOODS?
Non-profits, product-based, and service-based businesses are welcome.
CAN I NOMINATE A BUSINESS?
Absolutely! If you have contact information for the owner of the business, feel free to send the deets on over and we’ll get the conversation started. Otherwise, the easiest way to spread the word is by sharing and / or tagging businesses in our social media posts.

WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?
After moving to Oklahoma in 2021 to be part of the Tulsa Remote program, I searched high and low for a list of women-owned businesses in the area. I couldn’t find it, so I decided to create it.
Even though I’ve since moved out of state, the mission to support women-owned business lives on!
